It was my pleasure to speak at the 2025 Maryland Grape Growers Association’s annual meeting last week. Together with Daniel Larason, Vineyard Manager at The Crossvines, we discussed the most important things to consider when ordering and planting grapevines on your farm.
Planting a vineyard is a long term investment that requires many man hours and heavy capital input to see accomplished successfully. Every step you take in the establishment of your vineyard will ripple years into the future, so just like any other business creating and sticking to a plan is an absolute must! Other than picking your vineyard location, deciding which varieties are best suited for your site (and planting them) is the second most important decision you can make.
